MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, Dec. 1, 2025 — The National Association of Black Journalists – Minnesota (NABJ-MN) is proud to announce a new partnership with the Center for Broadcast Journalism and Power 104.7 FM to expand opportunities for aspiring journalists in our community.
Through a $5,000 sponsorship, Power 104.7 and the Center for Broadcast Journalism will support the NABJ-MN Convention Scholarship, helping Minnesota-based student journalists attend the 2026 National Association of Black Journalists Convention and Career Fair in Atlanta, Georgia, and the 2027 convention in Houston, Texas.
In addition to scholarship funding, NABJ-MN and the Center for Broadcast Journalism will collaborate on limited volunteer and educational programming, including opportunities for NABJ-MN members to share professional insights through the Power 104.7 Media Lab, which trains teens and young adults in media and journalism skills, as well as programming opportunities with Power 104.7.
This partnership comes at a time when representation in newsrooms remains disproportionately low, and young journalists of color often face unique barriers when entering the field. NABJ-MN and CBJ are committed to reducing those barriers through mentorship, financial support, and community-centered media training. Both organizations are committed to diversifying and enhancing representation in the news media.
“We’re excited to join forces with NABJ-MN to expand journalism training and opportunities for Minnesota youth,” said Harry Colbert Jr., the newly appointed vice president, programming and editorial at the Center for Broadcast Journalism. “Together, we’re strengthening the pipeline of skilled, diverse voices in news and media by providing real-world experience, direct exposure to working journalists, and hands-on training in reporting, editing, audio, video, and digital storytelling.”
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to investing in the next generation of Black journalists and storytellers,” said Sheree Curry, who is co-president of NABJ-MN with Meghann Oglesby. “We’re grateful to Power 104.7 and the Center for Broadcast Journalism for their leadership and collaboration in supporting young media talent across Minnesota. Supporting Black journalists is essential to strengthening trust, accuracy, and accountability in local news.”
